Iran Air continues its European flights
None of the European flights of Iran Air have been canceled and flights are being carried out, said Farzaneh Sharafbafi, CEO of Iran Air.
According to Sharafbafi, Iran Air continues its flights, despite the conditions formed due to sanctions.
She pointed out that necessary services for flights are not provided for some European destinations. Nevertheless, no room was given for the emergence of problems with the flights.
Sharafbafi said that 20 ATRs, 80 Boeing and 100 Airbus aircrafts were supposed to be sold to Iran within a 10-year period, and added that 3 Airbuses and 8 ATRs had been purchased in 2016-2017 and late 2017 respectively, and the purchase of Boeing aircrafts in 2019 was decided upon as well.
"However, with the withdrawal of the US from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on May 8, 2018, the US Department of the Treasury announced to all 3 companies that the license of the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) for the sale of aircraft to Iran had been revoked, and that they could obtain a license only for post-sale services," she said.
Sharafbafi added that no advance payments were being made to the companies when the license was still valid, and the airplanes were being purchased by being paid for on the spot.
"Today, 3 airplanes (Airbus 319) will depart from Mashhad Airport and will be handed over to Iran Air at the Mehrabad airport," she said.
Iran Air Company has 29 aircrafts, and has purchased 3 Airbus 319 aircrafts.
The OFAC, operating under the US Department of the Treasury, controls the sale of US-produced equipment to countries under sanctions.
