A total of 1,654 tons of coffee worth $4.25 million were imported from 14 countries, including the UAE, Vietnam, India, Indonesia, Turkey and Italy, during the first half of the current Iranian year (March 21-Sept. 22).
The most expensive coffee was imported from Romania that sold 12 tons of coffee worth $116,000 to Iran in H1.
At present, the import tariff on coffee, plus customs tax and duties, stands at 70% of the base value of the import, which drives up coffee prices for Iranian consumers from the imported price of 350,000 rials ($8.75) per kilogram to the selling price of 1.5 million Rial ($37.5).
