Iran suspends flights to Turkey following Turkish political crisis
All flights from Iran to Turkey were suspended following political crisis there, Deputy Director of Administrative Affairs in Tehran Imam Khomeini Airport City (IKAC) Kourosh Fatahi announced early on Saturday.
Due to the political crisis in Turkey and for the safety of passengers, 'no flights to the Turkish airports are being operated until further notice,' Fatahi told early on Saturday.
Resume of flights to Turkey will depend on the security situation in that country, the official added.
Iran's Foreign Ministry and Iranian embassy in Ankara have separately urged Iranian nationals and tourists in Turkey to stay in their places until further notice and try not to attend any gathering.
The statements released shortly after a group of Turkish military forces announced Friday night that they have seized power in that country.
The Iranian tourists in Turkey were asked to stay indoors and avoid going to busy places.
Iranian officials including Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif expressed their concern over latest developments in Turkey in separate messages.
According to dispatches, Turkey's military said on Friday it had seized power, but President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the attempted coup would be put down.
'We will overcome this,' Erdogan said, speaking by mobile phone to the Turkish sister station of CNN.
