Iran, Germany economy ministers stress stronger ties
German Economy Minister Sigmar Gabriel and Iran's Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance Ali Tayebnia on Monday called for boosting of all-out ties.
Gabriel, whose scheduled trip to Tehran was canceled due to illness, in a phone conversation with his Iranian counterpart, apologized for being unable to make the visit.
The official voiced hope to visit Iran and hold the joint economic commission meeting in a near future.
Germany is willing to promote ties with Iran, the official said.
Tayebnia for his part wished health for his counterpart and said that Tehran is committed to enhance ties with Berlin.
Gabriel and Tayebnia agreed to hold a meeting with the participation of their deputies and 400 Iranian and German economic activists on Tuesday.
Merkel’s vice-chancellor was expected to co-chair Iran-Germany Joint Economic Commission meeting. The meeting, the first time in 15 years, was scheduled for May 2-4. The two countries' last joint economic meeting was held in 2001.
