An expert on energy has said that Iran and Russia foster bilateral cooperation in the field of energy, noting that the time is ripe for Iran to get concessions from Russia.

Commenting on the Iran-Russia long-term cooperation plan, Mirqassem Momeni said in remarks to ILNA that a major part of this plan is related to energy exchange, joint investments, and oil and gas exports.

“The two countries are willing to cooperate in the forgoing fields. But what is important is how to implement these understandings. One cannot expect the job to be done simply through understanding and signing a contract,” the expert said.

He added that Iran and Russia can unite their stances regarding new export markets because Iran sits on a significant part of world energy resources. “The two countries can be impactful by cooperating in the field of global energy and this can be a positive thing for Iran,” he said.

He pointed out that Russia currently needs Iran in terms of circumventing sanctions and exporting goods as well as bilateral relations.  He underlined that Russia even needs to have Iran by its side in outlining joint oil and gas policies.

“Now that Russians are in dire need of Iran it’s time for us to get concessions,” he said
