Iraq owes Iran $5 billion in gas and electricity debts: Official
Secretary of the Union of Exporters of Oil, Gas and Petrochemical Products has said that Iran’s fuel exports to Afghanistan are in accordance with world prices and markets and they are based on oil prices.
Hamid Hosseini told ILNA has announced that the amounts of Iran’s diesel fuel exports to Afghanistan are about 100 thousand tonnes and the gasoline exports are 2 or 3 times more than this.
Iran’s fuel exports to Afghanistan are according to world prices and they are based on oil prices, he said, adding that the Iranian seller and the Afghan buyer reach agreements in that regard.
Commenting on reducing Iran’s gas exports to Iraq, he explained that Iraq paid for Iran’s vaccine last year and also paid for parts of goods that have been bought but these numbers aren’t enough given the amounts of gas exported.
The government and the Energy Ministry of Iraq have announced that they will pay the money of Iran’s electricity and gas, he said, adding that “it doesn’t mean that the money reaches to Iran but they deposit the money into accounts at the TBI and we still have a problem in transferring the money.”
Iraq owes Iran $5 billion in gas and electricity debts and the Iraqi banking system doesn’t cooperate with Iran under the pretext of sanctions, he said.
