Transit of goods via Iran projected to increase to 20 million tons: Official
A senior Iranian official said that Iran can increase the amount of transit of goods via Iran to 20 million tons this year.
Director General of Commercialization Office of the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development Amin Tarfa said in an exclusive interview with ILNA that currently, the countries of Eastern Europe have closed their borders with Russia.
Commenting on the activation of corridors of Iran and the region's countries due to the blocking of Russia's eastern and western corridors connected to Europe, he said, “this capacity and this amount of goods will transit through the Caspian sea and the southern routes of Iran.”
He said that in reality, the connectivity with the European countries will continue through these routes.
“Last year the amount of goods transit via Iran was about 11 million tons. This year we can reach the level of 20 million tons with the same infrastructures,” he added.
